Things my nice coworkers said

I think I’ve already mentioned how very nice and lovely my coworkers are (if sometimes a little misguided). We’re a small group, and so although I’ve only been there a little over a year we’ve gotten pretty comfortable with eachother.

Every once in awhile though, I notice a phrase that may totally make sense at the time but that sounds really wrong when taken out of context. I’ve started collecting these little nuggets and present them here for your enjoyment.

Boss Man: You going home? Have a nice… whatever.(1)

Coworker Guy: We should definitely check it out. Let me know if you’d like to go after work some time. We can go to happy hour and grab a bite to eat before the show. Maybe when your husband is on the road sometime?(2)

Downton Mary no you didn't

Boss Man: Hey, thanks for dressing up today.(3)

Coworker Guy: Hi Jennifer, thanks again for last night it was fun.(4)

1. Boss Man was really stressed out and literally didn’t have the brainpower to figure out if he should say “Have a nice [evening or weekend or holiday].”

2. I told Coworker Guy about a fun-sounding event happening in the city and he agreed that it did indeed sound fun. He also knew that my husband had just taken a consulting job and I was about to be alone most Mondays through Thursdays and looking for company. Not that kind of company. Coworker Guy is suuuuuuper gay btw. Not that it matters.

3. A client had scheduled an in-person meeting that day, so both Boss Man and I dressed up in our “Meeting with a client attire,” but when I got to work Boss Man told me the meeting had been canceled. Thanks anyway.

4. I went with three of my coworkers to an odd and awesome PowerPoint-based improve comedy show, and Coworker Guy was thanking me because I found out about the event and arranged the outing. And hey! I wrote about it over here on my company’s professional blog, and the post got passed on to the founder of the event and my team met with him last week to talk about possible collaborations. I’m way excited to delve more deeply into the world of slide-based entertainment. What a kooky path my weird love of PowerPoint has taken me on.

Bonus: Here’s another thing that doesn’t make a lot of sense out of context. No—you know what? It didn’t make a lot of sense in context either. But it was pretty funny and left the audience Speechless.
